A complete and authentic issue of the Newark Daily Advertiser, August 16, 1833, 4pp., disbound, VG. From page 2, a brief yet important report. in part, “A N. Orleans paper says ‘on Wednesday evening a disturbance occurred at the railroad, occasioned by a large number of colored men and boys seating themselves in the cars appropriated for white persons ... The superintendent used every peaceable exertion .. On proceeding to eject them forcibly, they made a desperate resistance ... we learn that all the colored people were armed ... The individual who appeared to be their captain, was armed with a sword cane and three pistols, two of which he fired on the crowd ...”
