An authentic issue of Gentleman’s Magazine, July 1740, 40pp., disbound, near fine. From the interior, in the form of a letter, comes this 1/2 page report of the progress of the war against the Spaniards at Fort St. Augustine. In small part, “..there is good reason to believe that the place will not long hold out against the good conduct and bravery of General Oglethorpe. ... a party of Cherokee Indians ... joined the general near Savannah, and they advanced to the Spanish frontiers where more Indians from the Uchetee, Chicksaws and Talapooses were to come in. Tis reported that in their way ... other Indians going to assist the Spaniards and killed 500 of them. ...”
