BIDDLE, Clement (1740-1814). American Revolutionary War Officer, Biddle fought in the Battle of Princeton, Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth; Continental Army Commissary General at Valley Forge with George Washington; in 1781, Quarter-Master General of the Pennsylvanian troops. Appointed the First U.S. Marshal (1789-1793) for Pennsylvania by President George Washington. Autograph Letter Signed, "Clement Biddle," as notary, November 8, 17986, This document hand written and signed in the body of text by Colonel Clement Biddle and again at the bottom by him in his capacity as Notary Public 1796. The top heading is noted in the hand of another person showing later payments. His personal paper over red wax seal is embossed at the bottom left, which has a Sailing Ship in the middle, in excellent condition. Finding a war date Biddle document is nearly impossible. Written with a Quill in rich brown ink upon fine quality laid watermarked with a "sleigh" period paper. Robert Rainey is seeking 244 pounds from George Hite of Virginia and signs this sworn statement at the bottom just above Colonel Clement Biddle. A fine signature of Colonel Clement Biddle.
