Self covering 4pp. letter written by George Stevens, New Orleans, December 7, 1849, written to John D. Murrell, Lynchburg Virginia with CDC "New Orleans, Dec. 7", In part, "You may rely on my attention to the Negroes per Banger Cyane in her arrival here with every precaution & care in sending them promptly to Tally Ho. ... I presume Mr. Hewitt gives you frequent updates from Tally Ho - his communications are generally very brief. ... We had on hand at last dates from Lpool near 7000 Bales of Cotton ,,, quote to buy as near 20 per Bale. Tally-Ho Plantation House, is located along River Road in Bayou Goula, Louisiana. Records show that Tally-Ho site was owned by Jean Fleming, a free man of color, sometime before 1835. There were several more owners after Fleming. John Dobbins Murrell, a slaveholder from Virginia bought the plantation in 1848, and it has remained in the family ever since. When Murrell purchased Tally Ho, he also bought the 69 slaves on the plantation..
