Self covering Autograph Letter Signed "John Mills" 2pp., to Emily Hockaday, September 11, 1824. Mills advises of the effect of the "bilious attack" for several named neighbors. "I have been unwell for nearly a week. He then advises "I send by Maj. Eubanks a coat pattern of cloth for Mr. Hockaday but had his plantoons pattern spoiled by taking a big cape off for my great coat. ...."Achilles Eubank came from Bedford County, Virginia near the peaks of the Otter. On his first trip to Kentucky in 1777, he came with a party of settlers led by Daniel Boone. According to family tradition, Achilles Eubank fought in the war of 1812, was captured by Indians and forced to run the gauntlet and barely escaped with his life. Another Self covering Autograph Letter Signed "Emily Hockaday" 3pp. to her son Irvine. Mostly personal family updates, but in the closing Emily writes, "... also my love to Mr. Boones Family .."
