Bound Volume of "The London Chronicle," July 1, 1786 through December 30, 1786, printed three times per week, eight pages each issues, 77 issues, with index, in original boards [front board loose], binding solid. The London Chronicle ran from 1757 April 23, 1823, focused on world and national news, coverage of artistic, literary, and theatrical events. Each issue displays the Half Penny tax stamp. There is considerable American news, we present only a skimming. [July 11, 1786] "Plantation News' reports a slave insurrection at St. John's Antigua. [July 20, 1786] A full page article, "A True Description of the Interest and Policy of the Continent of America: by his Excellency Dr. Franklin, President of the State of Pennsylvania." [July 25, 1786] "American News" ..."All Indians on or about the wabash are for war ...Colonel Christian and Captain Keller have lately fallen ..." [August 1, 1786] New York ... his Excellency John Hancock ... being prevented by sickness from attending Congress ... has requested Congress to accept his resignation ..." [August 8, 1786] "Plantation News" reports an insurrection and the leader "...Sharper taken prisoner .. found guilty of rebellion, and sentenced to be hanged, which was forthwith put into execution .." [August 12, 1786] Treaty signed between Prussia nd United States of America, signed by Tho. Jefferson, B. Franklin, John Adams. [August 15, 1786} Savannah, " ... died at his seat near Savannah, Nathaniel Greene Esq. late Major General ..." [October 12, 1786] " .. from Richmond ... a large party of Indians suddenly attacked and killed upwards 100 of the frontier inhabitants .." [November 21, 1786] Shays Rebellion ... ".. a mob consisting of 1500 men .. and headed by the Captain of the Militia ... treasonable intention of forcibly preventing the sitting of judges .."
