LEE, Richard Henry (1732-1794) Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Virginia. Lee served as President of the Continental Congress, yet opposed the Constitution because it lacked a bill of rights. He served in the Senate and resigned after the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution. Signed book titled Prose on Several Occasions by George Colman. London: Printed for T. Cadel, in the Strand, 1787. Hardcover, 4.75 x 7.5, 318 pages. Signed on the front pastedown in black ink, “Richard Henry Lee.” Autographic condition: slight feathering to ink and previous owner’s presentation inscription below signature, otherwise fine condition. Book condition is VG. Brown leather-covered boards with red leather title piece on spine; edges heavily worn with boards exposed in several places; spinehead and –tail chipped, and leather torn over approximately 1.5” of spine; rubbed and moderately soiled; foxing and discoloration to interior, mostly at endpapers; dark scribbles over rfep. In VG+ custom-made blue cloth-covered slipcase with leather-covered spine, lightly rubbed and very lightly foxed.
