[November 8th] From the interior, a four page letter to the editor, “Coloniztion of Free Blacks.” The writer is an early advocate of the country fostering a colony on the African coast, making five points in his argument. The good intention basis is that whites and blacks will not get along, “... utterly and obviously impossible that the negroes should, even whilst among us, be admitted to a full, free and equal participation ...” He continues in great detail. ... plus, [November 15] The editor responds in another four page letter, “I truly regret sir, that I have to confess myself unconvinced by your arguments.” His position is to promote emancipation.
