A complete and authentic issue of the London Magazine: Or, gentleman’s Monthly INtelligencer,” February 1776, 56pp., disbound, near fine. From an interior page, “A copy of the The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union entered into by the delegates of the several Colonies .... in General Congress met May 10th, 1775.” It continues with a two page printing the Articles to include in small part, “Article I. The Name of this Confederacy shall henceforth be The United Colonies of North America. ... Article V. That the Power and Duty of the Congress shall extend to the Determining on War and Peace, to sending and receiving ambassadors, and entering into Alliances, the Reconciliation with Great Britain ... Article X. No Colony shall engage in an offensive War with any Nation of Indians without the Consent of the Congress ....” There are several additional important reports, “Address of the American Congress to the Oppressed Inhabitants of Canada,” and Letter from General Lee to General Burgoyne on His Leaving America.
