DOUGLAS, Frederick was an American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, gaining note for his oratory. Document signed, “Fredk. Douglas”, as Recorder of Deeds, Washington, D.C., 1881-1886. Approx. 3½ x 8½” folded. Note; the imaged item is a sample. The consignor has multiple such documents.
