Manuscript Document Signed, 1p. oblong octavo, March 29, 1762, Farmington, Connecticut, it reads in part: “...Cornall Nathan Whiting sr. Please to Pay to Solomon Cowles Eight Pounds Ten Shilling and Eleven Pence out of my Bounty first months pay and the first of my wages which is for value received and charge ye same to my acct...” Fine. Solomon Cowles served throughout the French Indian War and was a major general during the American Revolution under George Washington. After the war he was instrumental in the abolitionist movement and his home built in 1784 is on the National Historic Sites list for homes of the Underground Railroad.
