Framed period print, 11-1/2" x 8-1/2" (site, not removed from frame) published by J. Baillie. NY, 1848, titled "BATTLE OF SIERRA GORDO, April 17th & 18th, Between Gen'l Scott and Santa Anna" Hand-tinted and very clean, in modern frame. The image shows Scott and the American soldiers charging the hill, with dead Mexican soldiers in the foreground and the Mexican Army retreating in the background. In the margin, "American Force, 8,000, killed and wounded 500 men. Mexican Force 15,000, Prisoners, killed, wound and runaway 15,000." The Battle of Cerro Gordo, or Battle of Sierra Gordo, saw Winfield Scott's United States troops outflank Antonio López de Santa Anna's larger Mexican army, driving it from a strong defensive position
