MORRIS, Robert H. (1700?-1764) Colonial Governor of Pennesylvania, (1754-1756) who on April 8, 1756 declared war on the Shawnee and Delaware, who as a part of his declaration, offered the following bounties: prisoners: men over 12=150 Spanish pieces of eight, women or boys=130; scalps: men=130, women and boys=50. The bounty on scalps will lead to the killing of many innocent Indians who were members of neither tribe. The legislation for this would be called "The Scalp Act". Partly-printed Document Signed, “Robt. Morris” as Governor, 1p. double folio, vellum, January 29, 1756, being a land grant. Some minor wear, else VG.
