DEWEY, George (1837-1917) was Admiral of the Navy, the only person in United States history to have attained the rank. He is best known for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War. Typed Letter Signed “George Dewey” 1pp. octavo, December 28, 1912, addressed to Karl Heumann, and reads in part: “...Please accept my thanks for your kind birthday wishes, received, I assure you, with the greatest appreciation. I am always glad to hear from my old shipmates....” Fine condition.
