Double-edged steel blade, wooden grip stamped A. L. on the pommel, brass cross guard bearing the same initials, 9-3/4" overall, light pitting to the blade, the brass with evidence of an old cleaning. Quite solid and in fine condition. See Neuman & Kravic's COLLECTOR'S ILLUSTRATED ENCUCLOPEDIA OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, page 97 for a similar knife. This weapon comes from the family of Adam Link, an Ohio pensioner who died in 1864 at the age of 103. Link served in militia on the frontier as a young man and was one of the last surviving Revolutionary War veterans. He is buried in Sulphur Springs, Ohio. Included is a CDV of Link's grandson, Mathias Markley (1832-1912) and his Sons of the Revolution medal from the organization's 1902 Washington, D. C. meeting. The Adam Link knife was purchased directly from Markley 's (and thus Link's).
