Black border issue, "The President is Gone, Prof. Haim Weizman Died at Dawn" with a two column photo of Weizman Chaim Azriel Weizmann (1874-1952) was a Russian-born biochemist, Zionist leader and Israeli statesman who served as president of the Zionist Organization and later as the first president of Israel. Maariv was founded in 1948 by former Yediot Aharonot journalists led by Dr. Ezriel Carlebach, who became Maariv's first editor-in-chief. It was the most widely read newspaper in Israel in its first twenty years. Maariv, associated with Israel's political center, was critical of Benjamin Netanyahu's center-right government
