A great Colonial era partly-printed, 1p. 4to., Tavern License, August 7, 1752, Halifax County, Virginia, reading, in part: "Know all men…that we John Owen and John Nicholls are held and firmly bound unto…Lord King George the Second…of Great Britain…the above bound John Owen hath abstained a license to keep an Ordinary at his home in the county of Halifax…doth constantly find and provide, in his said Ordinary, good, wholesome and cleanly Lodging and Diet for Travellers, and Stabaldge, Fodder…as the Season shall require for their horses…during the Term of one Year…". Signed and made official by both Owens and Nicholls in the presence of George Currie. Interestingly enough, this license was issued the very year that Halifax County, Virginia was established. Minor stains, else VG.
