CDV, vignetted engraved image of Colonel Edward Barker in uniform, backmark by Charles Taber, New Bedford, Mass. Barker served as a colonel in the United States Army in both the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War . Baker was killed at the Battle of Ball's Bluff while commanding a regiment in the Union Army , becoming the only sitting senator to be killed in the American Civil War.
