PEPPER, Claude (1900-1989) Florida senator who was a leading spokesman for liberalism and champion of the elderly. A good group of five T. L. S. "Claude" and "Claude Pepper" on United States Senate stationery dated between Oct. 11, 1943 and Oct. 14, 1949 concerning his views on the welfare and well being of American citizens, reading, in small part: "…I have never believed in socialized medicine…I have a keen interest in the health and well-being of the people…recently I was made Chairman of the Sub-Committee…to make a study of the conditions causing the rejection of such a large number of men by the armed forces…". Overall very good to near fine.
