Autograph Letter Signed by T.E. Foster, 3pp. quarto, Lexington, Mississippi, July 4, 1858, addressed to C.W. Cowan and reads in part: “...land is much higher here than expected, it ranges in this country from three to twenty dollars per acre. There is about one hundred & sixty acres with about 40 acres cleared on it and the cotten that is growing on it is better than any in South Carolina...I have not sold Ally yet if we could have had time to make a trade I think I could have got fourteen hundred dollars for her , that was at Grand junction. I have been offered twelve hundred dollars, I hold her at $1500, but will take 1350 if I can get it for her....I want the money to buy horses & mules with it if they are not too high as soon as I get rid of Ally I will start to Kentucky...if you can sell Charlotte and her three children for twenty-five hundred dollars payable the first of December, ell them for me if the horse & hog market is too high I will try the Negro market...” Fine condition.
