War-date Confederate soldier's letter, written by Pvt. "R(obert) M. Rucker", Co. A, 2nd Tennessee Infantry, 4pp., "September 2, 1861, Second Tenn. Regiment," with original cover, minor damp staining. In part: "…between Manassas and Alexandria there are not less at this time than ninety or one hundred thousand troops under Beauregard & Johnson. My own impression is that there will be a big fight before long in the course of several weeks or a month...when we left Richmond, we did not get to see Jeff Davis…on account of his illness...but we saw the prisoners [from the battle of First Bull Run] about 1400 of them...".
