Group of three (3) war-date Confederate officer’s Autograph Letters Signed by Captain George Bouton, and read in part: “...[1/20/62 Yorktown]We are all quiet here now as the Burnside fleet has sailed. I am still in charge of the battery, though I have heard that Capt. Maury has been reinstated and will doubtless be in place in a few days...[2/21/62]we are expecting a fight here now...a number of scaling ladders have been prepared what is to be done with them no one outside of Fortress Monroe headquarters knows. If to climb Fortress Monroe many a brave man will be minus a head, for the want of information that is surmised...[5/8/62] On yesterday (Wednesday) I went down about 18 miles on the York river Railroad, and heard that our company was on the march up the Charles City road on their way to Richmond. I just came back and went down to meet them this morning, they having arrived having thrown away their blankets & clothes on the march....Many of the men gave out on the wayside & had to be left...” Fine condition.
