Pair of war-date Confederate officer’s Autograph Letter Signed by Captain George Bouton, includes: ALS, 2pp. octavo, June 21, 1861, Camp Henry, Culpeper, and reads in part: “...Gen. Johnston is near Winchester with 13,000 men & Gen. Patterson our enemy is near Martinsburg with from 15 to 25,000 not more than 15 miles apart. It is thought that there must be a battle in a few days. Gen. Beauregard is at Manassas with 20 odd thousand & it is believed that he will advance in a few days...” Fine condition...plus; ALS, 1pp. May 26, 1861, and reads in part: “...most unexpected to me, the company made me its commander on yesterday to my regret. Im not equal to the task and feel my present embarrassment...” Fine condition. (2 items)
