Group of three (3) war-date Confederate officer’s Autograph Letters Signed by Captain George Bouton, penned between December 8 and 17th, 1861 from Yorktown, they read in part: “...[12/8/61]We have at last gotten the guns fixed to work easy, and we are now drilling every day Sunday included and sometimes in the night. There is said to be a large force of the enemy now landing at Old Point, two steamers have been seen today off the harbor. The authorities profess to have information that this place will be next attacked. The entrenching forces have been at work all day, and reinforcements have been ordered here....[12/12/61]The force sent to Matthews has returned apprehensive of being cut off. Things are squally...[12/17/61]we have been very busy moving our encampment. We are all now in tents again, we are on the hill, just west of and near to the Naval Battery. We are near our guns and out of the line of fire of an enemy...we are still expecting an advance of the enemy and everything is kept busy and in readiness...” Fine condition. (3 items)
