War-date Confederate officer’s Autograph Letter Signed by Captain George Bouton, 2pp. quarto, July 26, 1861, Yorktown, and reads in part: “...About 3000 troops left here some days since to see if they could get into a fight with the Yankees, but have not yet, or we should have heard of it. Mr. Henry Thorton is among the number...we are in camp on the Williamsburg road have but one piece, we are expecting two others daily. We are having some complaining among the men though nothing serious, the best and most prudent portion of the men but seldom complain of being sick...There is no chance to leave here as a furlough has to be signed by Gens Hill & Magruder and one or the other will be sure to refuse to do it...” Fine condition...plus; Confederate “countersign” dated July 20, 1861, Yorktown, with the countersign being “Hood” by order of General Hill Commanding.
