Pair of war-date Confederate officer’s Autograph Letters Signed by Captain George Bouton, and reads in part: “...[11/21/1861] Mrs. Hudgins had better not come back now, the people are making every preparation to move out of Matthews County, so Mr. Owen told me, the enemy have taken possession of the two counties on the Eastern Shore, and took 3000 prisoners & their arms, only about 30 got away. It was very badly managed on our part, we are still expecting a battle everyday. I have slept with my clothes on two nights this week there came a messenger on Monday that the enemy were advancing 6,000, and there must be a fight...[12/5/61] We drill not twice a day at the Naval Battery, Capt. J.M. Maury is in command, there is no appearance of an enemy about ....” Fine condition. (2 items)
