War-date Confederate Autograph Letter Signed, “E.D. Blake Lt Col CSA Inspr Genl.” who served on the staffs of General Polk and General Hardee, 1p. quarto, Inspector Genl’s Office, Tupelo, Mississippi, June 13, 1862, addressed to General Chalmers and reads “General Bragg desires that you will order a squadron of cavalry to be put at my disposal daily, to collect stragglers and to enforce orders in relation to the camp police. Please order them to this office as soon as possible, the officer in command to report to me. My office is next to that of the chief Quarter Master and that of the Medical Director...” Fine. General Chalmers would later distinguish himself and his command while fighting under General Nathan Bedford Forrest.
