A good postwar Confederate general's signature: "Will T. Martin, late Maj. Genl. C. S. A." (1823-1910). Martin first served as colonel of the Jeff Davis Legion and commanded a wing of Stuart's command during his first ride around McClellan. He was promoted major general in 1863 and commanded a division in Wheeler's cavalry during the Atlanta campaign. After the war he served as senator in the Mississippi senate. VG.
