Dunan Campbell, it reads in part: "...You are hereby informed that the President has appointed you Captain of Engineers. In the Provisional Army in the service of the Confederate States: to rank as such from the seventeenth day of March one thousand eight hundred and sixty four..." Fold reinforcements, else about VG...plus; Autograph Letter Signed, "A.L. Rives" Col. & Acting Chf. Bur., 1p. octavo, on Confederate States of America, War Department, Engineer Bureau," blockade run lettersheet, April 9, 1864, addressed to Capt. Duncan Campbell, and reads in part: "...I take pleasure in transmitting herewith your promotion to the grade of Captain in the Provisional Corps of Engineers, to take rank as such from 17 Mich 1864. You will continue, until further orders, in the discharge of the duties to which you are at present assigned..." VG...plus; Manuscript Letter Signed, "A.L. Rives" 1p. quarto, on Confederate States of America, War Department, Engineer Bureau, on blockade run stationary, Richmond, Virginia, April 19, 1864, addressed to Capt. Campbell, and reads "Your letter of the 13th Inst. enclosing your acceptance of promotion to the grade of Captain in the Corps of Engineers has been received and the acceptance duly forwarded through the Adjt. & Inspt.
