Pair of partly-printed Documents issued to William L. Lynch, 44th Georgia Infantry, WIA at Ellison's Mill, Virginia, June 26, 1862 and taken POW at Petersburg on April 2, 1865, he was eventually given his parole in June 1865 from Point Lookout. Group includes "Certificate of Release of Prisoner of War." 1p. oblong octavo, Point Lookout, Maryland, June 28, 1865, and reads "I hereby Certify, That Wm. L. Lynch Prisoner of War, having this day taken the Oath of Allegiance to the United States...is in conformity with instructions from the War Department, hereby released and discharged..." With stamp of Maj. A.G. Brady, provost marshal, with attached Oath, 1p. oblong octavo, June 28, 1865, listing Lynch has fair complexion, dark hair, and hazel eyes; and is 5 feet 9 inches high. It is signed by Lynch and attests "that I will support, protect and defend the Constitution and Government of the United States against all enemies..." Field carried, about VG. The 44th Georgia Infantry was a hard fought unit who lost sixty-four percent of the 524 engaged at Mechanicsville and forty-six percent of the 142 at Malvern Hill.
