War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by Nathaniel H. Talbot, 43rd & 58th Massachusetts Infantry, 2pp. quarto, pencil, Camp Rogers, December 5, 1862, and reads in part: “...went up to Newbern...there is a few stores opened but all are Northern men there is one picture room, I went in to it the man was in bed, there was no pictures to be seen, I asked if he had any. He told a darkey to show me some. We went into the operating room and there was 4 or 5 with out glass or frame, price one dollar. I wish my aperatus was here I could beat any of his with my poorest. There is a good many handsome houses...saw any quantity of darkeys but no white women...” Very Good condition. ...plus; Card issued to Talbot on July 1st 1869 for “a special tax as a photographer.” Fine.
