Rare Civil War ephemera being a printed form which read “TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. The person herein mentioned, WILLIAM JARRETT, was for the period of eighteen months, a member of the Company of which I am now Captain. He fought gallantly in the battles of Mechanicsville, Gaines’ Mill, and New Market. He was taken prisoner in the last named battle, while assisting a badly wounded comrade, and taken to Richmond. He always performed his duty faithfully, and with alacrity as becomes a true soldier. “ Approved J.W. Fisher, Col. 5th Reg’t P.V., Charles Wells, Capt. Com Co. B, 5th Regt. PRVC and James D. Slater, 1st Lt. Co B. 5th Pennsylvania.
