Autograph Letter Signed, "A.E.R. Hatch" 2p. folio, pencil, June 9, no year though after the Seven Days battles of 1862, with excellent content it reads in part: "...I have not heard from Charley in a long time, his regiment is 13 miles from us, they are in General Franklin's Division. The news here today is that we are going to be sent to the front again & that McClellan is going to attack the rebels this week, if true you will hear of one of the hardest & bloodiest battles that has been fought since the Rebellion broke out. I think there is nearly two hundred and fifty thousand troops here to attack them with. I wrote before about the battlefield at Williamsburg, it was indeed an awful sight, but nothing compared with that of the 31st when the battle was being fought. There men were falling all around me groaning & crying for help and I noticed more than any other Capt. Williams, he was only a few feet from me when a bombshell struck him, he had one leg taken off and the other all mangled, his groans and cries for help were awful, some tried to help him but it was no use, he died, he was buried near the spot where he fell..."
