War-date Union Autograph Letter Signed, "Kimball Pearsons" 10th New York Cavalry, Killed in Action at Trevilian Station, Virginia, on June 11, 1864, 4pp. octavo, pencil, on "The Girl I left Behind Me" stationary, Camp of Recruits near Alexandria, November 10, 1862, with cover it reads in part: "…I have been to Alexandria today with Jas. And John, we took a look at the Hotel where Ellsworth was shot and looked through the city and found nothing peculiar. I saw what I did not expect to see here and that was skates for sale and the women dressed in furs. I thought we were coming to the sunny south…last night I was on guard and I could scarcely keep my hands and feet warm…We have a little sheet iron stove in the center of our tent that keeps us comfortable…When we first came here we heard considerable cannonading in the direction of Centerville but it all quiet now…When we came here we first found soldiers guarding the rail road within 20 or 30 miles of Baltimore and we kept finding them thicker and thicker every few miles clear to here where there is thousands and thousands within a few miles…This afternoon there were 20 squads of soldiers of from 10 to 100 in a squad on a little piece of ground not more than 80 rods square…" VG.
