War-date Union soldier’s Autograph Letter Signed by Abraham Bair, 30th Pennsylvania Infantry, 4pp. folio, Camp near Falmouth, Virginia, June 2, 1862, and reads in part: “...We have travelled many a mile since you heard from me the last time and there have not made much progress after all. After we left Camp Pierpont and proceeded in the direction of Centreville with the expectation of having a fight with the Rebels but they (you know) evacuated that place therefore we did not get a chance to drive them out....The most disagreeable day that I’ve spent since in the army was the same day we moved to Manassas....we came to the ever memorable stream known as Bull Run the train was stopped and we were ordered to get off and was quartered in Rebel huts...marched off up the Rail Road to Manassas Junction...I was quite surprised when we arrived there for I had heard so much talk about the place I expected to see it strongly fortified. But instead of that it was only here and there a rough fortification and they never had a heavy gun mounted on them...” More. Fine condition.
