War-date Union officer’s Autograph Letter Signed by Capt. Henry A Wiley, Company B, 104th New York Infantry, November 21, 1862, Near Stafford Court House, Virginia, 4pp. quarto, pencil, and reads in part: “...the roads here have become almost impassable owing to the heavy rains which have been falling the last three days. The mud is from five to ten inches deep in many places and it is impossible to move artillery or supply trains but a short distance in a day...Gen. Wilcox is now at Falmouth which is on this side of the Rappahannock one mile from Fredericksburg. On his arrival there the rebels got a battery in position and threw a few shells but they were soon driven from the guns and had not been near them again at last account...About 8 oclock this morning I was detailed to take 200 men and go out to repair the roads which are very bad here...” Near fine condition.
