War-date Union officer’s Autograph Letter Signed by Capt. Henry A Wiley, Company B, 104th New York Infantry, 3pp. quarto, Camp 104th Regt. NYS Vols, Belle Plain, Virginia, March 1, 1863, and reads in part: “...Fuller & Peabody have been tried but the sentence has not been made public as yet...Col. [Gilbert] Prey [POW Weldon Railroad], Capt. [Albert] Haver, & Lieut [Jacob]Stull have gone back on furlough...I learn that the conscription bill has passed Congress and only awaits the signature of the President to become a law which will not be held long. I am also told that one provision of the bill constitutes that in each Congressional District there is to be a Marshall appointed...Colt is after it...Last evening a petition was circulated among the officers of this Regt to Senator Harris asking it for him which was the first that I knew that was such a thing as I have not see the bill....It seems to me that Pa is just the man for it being well acquainted through out the whole district...if they will help him together with Gov. Morgan & Harris and what other friends he has will make a strong team to beat...” More. Fine condition.
