War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by Richard Andrews, 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery and later captain in the 36th USCT, later brevetted major, 3pp. octavo, Fort Duncan, Maryland Heights, November 22, 1863, and reads in part: "...The bearer of this Sergt. Chas H. Widger [WIA Spotsylvania CH] will deliver to you a small paste board box containing several Artilley trinkets viz Friction Primers, Papers fuzes, A Borman Fuze, and a Schenke Fuze. The Borman fuze is of lead and the Schenke of brass or composition, be careful not to drop the Schenke Fuze and not pull or twist the little twisted wire that goes through the cylinder in the Friction Primer. Please keep all for me till I get home. In the tin box you will find three different kinds of Powder. The coarsest is called Cannon Powder, or No. 7, the next to that, Mortar Powder, or No. 5, and the finest, Musket Powder. Be careful of it..." Very Good condition
