War-date Autograph Letter Signed, 4p. octavo, pencil, On Picket in Falls Church, Virginia, November 1, 1863, with cover addressed to his sister in New York, and reads in part: “...I am with my Co. which is encamped about one mile from here...Col. Robert Fauquier who fell while nobly leading his Reg to a charge at the Battle of Satillo, Me[xico] The interior of this once splendid edifice is now only a mass of ruins. We are 10 miles from Washington by way of Bailey’s Cross Road”......Our business here is to protect the citizens from Mosby’s Raids no longer ago than last Sunday he was due in this identical church with a few of his guerrillas, we went out last Tuesday & captured a couple of horses he had left behind him. The report now is that he has found Lee...I found a letter here for me from A.S. Patrick written in Castle Pemberton Richmond, Va. It was short just giving me an account of his capture. he hopes to get exchanged soon.” More. VG.
