Autograph Letter Signed, “James Taylor” 3p. folio, Albany, New York, May [1864?], with cover addressed ”Lieut James T. Wyatt 11th Battery NYSV Artillery Reserve Army of the Potomac, Washington D.C.” and reads in part: “...I was heartily glad to hear from you, anyone having friends exposed to the dangers of such severe fighting, of course were kept in a state of awful anxiety, about the dear and thus exposed, many a household all over our land are mourning the loss of Fathers, sons, and brothers, and the prayers of thousands of Christian men and women are ascending to Heaven daily for the success of our brave armies...it is sickening to see the traitors we have around us, you have no doubt heard of the forged proclamation and that the Editors of the “World’ and Journal of Commerce were arrested and sent to Lafayette, this has been a godsend for the copperhead papers and they are howling over the outrage, and trying to make capital out of it, and our copperhead governor’s showing his teeth again, he has written a long yarn to the District Attorney of New York, to arrest all who had anything to do with the closing these offices, or arresting any of the parties, and the revolutionary Argus has been trying to prevail upon the Democrat members of Congress to vacate their seats and come home, hoping to raise a revolution in the North, it is enough to make any one’s blood boil...” VG.
