Beaufort, South Carolina, September 17, 1865, and reads “The bearer Jacob Robinson enters at these Hd. Qrs. a formal complaint on behalf of himself and others against his late master Wm. Robinson owner of the ‘Hammock’ estate some six miles from your station. The General [Rufus Saxton] directs that you will visit the place & investigate the circumstances of the case, and on the basis of the order enclosed settle if possible the variance...” Near fine condition.
