Vols., January 5, 1865 concerning Warren's raid on the Weldon Railroad which took place from December 7 through 12, 1864, in part: "…there is plenty of game out here, but this game will return fire they are called Rebs…we have been on a raid that is the 5th Corps. It was a long tramp. We were gone 6 days [and] went 40 miles…tore up 20 miles of railroad, burned all the houses that lay in our track, took all the cattle that we came across…[and] took all Nigros along with us…".
