Fales, 1pp. octavo, on illustrated Union Volunteer Refreshment Saloon & Hospital lettersheet, November 20, 1865, addressed to Reverend Sibley, and states: “..I have taken the liberty of sending you some photographs &c of my saloon; also my own photograph ...I am a live institution in Philad that I have tried to discharge my duty to my country in her darkest hours...” Fine condition....plus; “The Fair Record of the Union Volunteer Refreshment Saloon”16pp. quarto, with pencil inscription at top “Rev. P.L. Sibley with compliments Sam B. Fales”. with tipped in Autograph Letter Signed “Sam B. Fales” on fine Union Refreshment Saloon & Hospital stationary, 2pp. octavo, November 20, 1865, Philadelphia, addressed to Rev. Sibley, and reads in part: “...We shall have fed at our Institution since May 27, 1865 to Dec. 1st 1865 nearly 900,000 men about 750,000 meals have been given to our brave soldiers passing through our city and to discharged soldiers, Refugees, contrabands & c. to nearly one hundred &fifty thousand have also been fed at the saloon.
