Autograph Letter Signed, “Charles M. Deatrich” 7p. octavo, Saint Thomas, Pennsylvania, December 11, 1913, with cover addressed to General Dixon, with excellent Dixon family history, it reads in part: “...you recruited Company D, Sixth Regt. Pa. Reserves and leaving a flourishing business in clinical hands. You went up to the firing line in the first battle of the war of the Rebellion which was won by the Pa. Reserves at Drainsville, Va. then you went through the Peninsular Campaign to the White House Landing and Malvern Hill in 1862. Participating in the Seven Days battle in front of Richmond August 14, seeing war in its sternest aspect upon the second field of Bull Run. Thereby forced march to Antietam where upon the morning of the 16th September...Your command appeared on South Mountain almost shirtless and shoeless...Fighting under Franklin on the left of Fredericksburg...Arriving at Gettysburg at 2 PM July 2 1863 you charged with your right from Little Round Top after Gen. Sykes regulars were repulsed, when you was wounded in the Charge. All through the Wilderness again with Grant in 1864. Wounded again at Bethesda Church...and seriously injured in the head at Harrison Landing...and in 1864 [commissioned] a Brig General ...” Much more. VG.
