Stoddard of the State of New York, July 4, 1830, with appointment in the United States Army, an appointment he declined to join the Navy. partly printed, 11” x 17,” some discoloration at bottom, light ink. The document is signed by “S(ylvanus) Thayer” as Superintendent (considered the "Father of West Point" because of his development of the school of engineering), E A. Hitchcock, future Federal Civil Major General, D(avid) B. Douglass, War of 1812 Officer, Thomas Gimbrede, portrait and miniature artist, and the five other professors.
