Printed Letter titled “PREPARATORY SCHOOL AT WEST POINT.”, 1p. quarto, c. 1835-1849, and reads in part: “...Z.J.D. KINSLEY, (a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, and for many years Instructor of Artillery in the Institution,) residing on the west bank of the Hudson river, one mile south of West Point, Orange County, N.Y., will receive into his family a limited number of pupils and prepare them for admission into the Military Academy. The terms will be $25 a month for each pupil remaining in the School over two months; for a shorter period than two months, at the rate of $30 a month...This will include instruction in French and English: Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Geography; and Board, Room, Fuel, Washing, Light - in short, all necessary expenses except for Books, Stationary, and Clothing. Facilities will also be afforded to young Gentlemen, not designed for the Army, who may wish to receive instruction in Civil Engineering, Drawing, Navigation, and the higher branches of Mathematics....” Followed by a list of references.
