De FOREST, Lee (1873-1961)was an American inventor with over 180 patents to his credit. De Forest invented the Audion, a vacuum tube that takes relatively weak electrical signals and amplifies them. De Forest is one of the fathers of the "electronic age", as the Audion helped to usher in the widespread use of electronics. He is also credited with one of the principal inventions which brought sound to motion pictures. Autograph Letter Signed “Lee de Forest” 1pp. quarto, on his Lee De Forest Laboratories stationary, September 12, 1934, and reads “ I much appreciated your nice letter of felicitations on my birthday. As you see, I am now living and working where I have always wished to live & work - in California. This largely accounts for the fact that I feel as young and am in as good, or better, health than I was 10 years ago in New York City...” Fine condition.
