Group of three (3) school teacher’s letters from Chase P. Parsons, of New Hampshire, 1856-1858, and read in part: “...[1/31/56 - Atkinson, NH]Am well & flourishing - school larger than last winter! have 53 pupils...[2/23/56 Atkinson, NH]Am glad to hear you are all prospering so well at G. and that the Democratic Party are going to gain the victory this year...Am prosperous as usual good school & more too. Have just had a very urgent invitation to stand at the head of the Public Schools in Haverhill, Mass at a salary of a thousand a year & more if I succeed well. should have 40 or 45 pupils in my department, & 4 recitations in each half day. T’would be an easy berth but I don’t see fit to accept...[5/24/1858 Gilmanton, NH]Am hoping to have an easy time next term, though that will depend on the number of scholars. The school has been constantly increasing since my connection with it, and has numbered about 80 during the past term; which term, by the way, has been by far the most pleasant term I have ever spent in an Academy. But this, I suppose, is the last term i shall be here. Am now expecting to go to Evansville, Indiana, in August and engage in teaching there in a City High School...” Fine condition.
