ADAMS, John Quincy (1767-1848) 6th President of the United States. Son of John Adams, 2nd President. U.S Senator, 1803-08, Chief Negotiator of Treaty of Ghent, 1814, Secretary of State to Monroe, 1817-25. Though he lost both the electoral and popular vote to Andrew Jackson in 1824, there were no majority winners and the election was given to the House of Representatives, who elected Adams on the first ballot with the barest majority. Document Signed as President, “J.Q. Adams,” September 1, 1825, partially printed document on vellum, 16” x 9-1/2,” with seal intact. Acknowledges that Joseph Moss has made full payment for 72 acres in the District of Detroit and Territory of Michigan. Nice signature, folds, overall very good. Joseph Moss bought at least 3800 acres in the Detroit area during this period.
