Typed Letter Signed “Marshall Sheppey” the retired head of the Berdan Grocery firm, 1pp. quarto, marked “Personal” and addressed “To the President, White House Office Building, Washington D.C.” May 1, 1926, and reads in part: “...The enclosed clipping from this morning’s Toledo paper prompts me to suggest that you occupy my camp in the Adirondacks as your summer White House. The camp is on the west shore of Tupper Lake, New York, and is so situated that you can have all the privacy you desire and yet will be convenient for those whom you might wish to have call on you. There are no telegraph or telephone wires to the camp - the nearest being Moody, New York, which is two miles across the lake. If necessary a wire could be run to Moody....The camp is completely equipped and there are boats of every description...The absolute freedom from curiosity seekers and even politicians would be to my mind most desirable. I make the tender in all sincerity, believing that the camp offers the greatest of opportunities for peace, rest and happiness...” With White House stamp stating it was received and note in the hand of Calvin Coolidge “Is inspecting sites. If he does not find one will advise you later.” Near fine condition.
